Recently, at the metalworking workshop of Jiangsu Sujian Road & Bridge Machine Co., Ltd., workers were skillfully operating hoisting, cutting and processing equipment, presenting a busy production scene.

Li Jiming, Chairman of the company, summarized its current development with twelve words: “Sufficient orders, abundant production capacity, and stable market.” With nearly 40% of orders coming from overseas, the enterprise has maintained steady progress amid complex international situations and domestic economic challenges. Li attributed its resilience to independent core technologies and three key strategies: winning the battles of quality, innovation and market expansion.

In the battle for quality, the company has adhered to the principle of “building brands through quality and promoting development via brands” since its founding in 2011. It has implemented strict quality control over material procurement, production inspection, process improvement and construction management. By carrying out 6S lean management, integrating production and technical departments, and optimizing on-site conditions, the company has continuously enhanced employees’ quality awareness. It has passed ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001 certifications, and invested over 20 million yuan in intelligent upgrading, including advanced laser cutting and automatic welding equipment, greatly improving both efficiency and product reliability.

Regarding innovation as core competitiveness, Sujian Bridge established a research and development center in 2017, leading to a boom in technological achievements since 2019. So far, it holds 52 patents and has been recognized as a national high-tech enterprise and a provincial-level specialized and sophisticated SME. The company has transformed from traditional manufacturing to intelligent manufacturing, with its products applied in many landmark domestic projects such as the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, Wuhan Shuangliu Yangtze River Bridge, as well as several major railway projects. Its products have also been used in offshore rescue bases for the first time. Backlogs extend to next year, with output value increasing by more than 70% year-on-year.

In the global market competition, nearly 40% of the company’s orders are from overseas. Benefiting from the Belt and Road Initiative, Sujian Bridge has expanded its business to Papua New Guinea, Nigeria, Vanuatu and other countries, showcasing Chinese engineering strength worldwide.

Li emphasized that going global requires continuous internal improvement. Notably, Sujian Bridge is the only private enterprise participating in formulating the national technical specification for prefabricated steel highway bridges. Through technological innovation and upgrading, the company has seized competitive advantages and gained greater initiative in global development.
